Jeff studied the French horn at the Royal Academy of Music, in London with Ifor James. He has played principal horn in London for 43 years holding positions with the London Philharmonic Orchestra,
London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a soloist Jeff has performed frequently with all the above orchestras, playing the Mozart and Strauss concertos in addition to performances of the
Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings. He has recorded all of the Mozart Concertos with the Royal Philharmonic and Thomas Dausgaard, the Britten Serenade with the RPO and Vladimir Ashkenazy.
He is also a soloist on the Guildhall Soloists CD and the Tippett Sonata for four horns with the Michael Thompson Horn Quartet. He also regularly appears as a soloist at British Horn Society festivals. Jeff has
featured on many film scores including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Bond movies, Batman and many others. He has also appeared in the film Give My Regards to Broad Street with Sir Paul McCartney.
Jeff is the Horn Professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has held this post since 1973. Many of his students are in high profile positions in London, the regions and abroad.
He is the Horn Tutor of the European Union Youth Orchestra and has held this post since 1991.
Currently Jeff is in demand as a freelance horn player, both in the recording studios and as a guest principal
with the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Royal Opera House, English National Opera and English Chamber Orchestra. Jeff has been awarded fellowships for outstanding contribution to horn playing by The Royal Academy of
Music, The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity Laban College of Music, London.
